Timber Partitions / Stud wall Systems

Timber stud walls / partitions are extremely popular with alterations in domestic properties & refurbishments projects. they are ideal for creating feature walls with alcoves & shelving, etc, etc. Its easy to create a solid structure with timber but it does tend to be a slower & more costly than the modern metal systems. As with timber partitions /stud walls, they also can be insulated & fitted with any type of plasterboard.

Metal Partitions / Stud wall Systems

Metal stud work systems for walls are extremely popular & are used in a wide variety of buildings from refurbishments, commercial buildings, sound proofing walls & most new housing projects. There are a lot of advantages hence why it is so much more widely used than timber nowadays. It can be used pretty much anywhere, its quick to fit, has sound proofing advantages & won’t rot like timber can. It can also be designed or strengthened up to take doors or heavy loads if required. As with timber partitions /stud walls, they also can be insulated & fitted with any type of plasterboard.

Dot & Dab Plasterboard System / Dry Lining

This is a very fast way of getting nice flat walls which is commonly used in new builds. It has a lot of bonus points where its often warmer but can make it very frustrating for the homeowner to get fixings when fitting pictures/shelves or anything for that matter as you are only screwing into plasterboard. This can be useful in bathroom areas where uneven walls are a problem for tilers, as it’s a quick solution for getting the walls level without the lengthily drying times of the float & sett method. A mix of board adhesive is mixed with dollops of this applied to the wall or board at 400mm centres then the plasterboard is simply stuck to the wall & then flattened with a straight edge to make it level.

Batten & Plasterboard / Dry Lining

This is similar to the dot & dab system but is slightly more labour intensive. The advantages are that it enables you to get good fixings for any picture hanging or shelves. Pre treated timber battens are fitted to the wall at 400mm centres, followed by screwing the plasterboard to the battens with suitable size drywall screws. When using this system on external walls insulation can be fitted in between & behind the battens.
